Most male cats are rare and will have XY chromosomes, while female cats will have the XX chromosomes. For many female cats, part of their color genes comes from the extra leg on the second X. Usually, male cats with the same genes will be either black or orange, but not both as they don’t carry the same extra leg on their second chromosome.
