Herschel, a German Shepherd, had a tough life for five years, spending most of his time chained up in a backyard with no socialization. His teeth were whittled down as he tried to eat his way through the chain. Finally, he was surrendered to Michelson Found Animals where he received medical attention and care. However, Herschel was repeatedly adopted and returned to the shelter due to his adjustment issues.
The animal rescue organization called Rocky Kanaka, the host of Dog's Day Out, to give Herschel a fun day out. Rocky took Herschel to play in the snow and eat delicious food. One viewer of the show fell in love with Herschel and adopted him. During the road trip to his new home, Rocky took Herschel to the beach for the first time. Herschel barked in excitement and played in the sand and surf with Rocky.
