Burt Ward, famously known for his role as Robin in the TV series Batman in the 1960s, shifted his attention from crime-fighting to rescuing dogs. He and his wife started Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions in 1994, finding forever homes for over 15,500 dogs. The couple also launched Gentle Giant Products, a natural pet food line aimed at extending the life expectancy of pets. The Wards do not pay themselves a salary for their work, which keeps prices down. While Ward's contribution to pop culture may be small, his efforts in animal welfare could matter most. He hopes to be remembered as someone who left the planet better than he found it.
