Burt Ward, famously known for his role as Robin in the TV series Batman in the 1960s, shifted his attention from crime-fighting to rescuing dogs. He and his wife started Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions in 1994, finding forever homes for over 15,500 dogs. The couple also launched Gentle Giant Products, a natural pet food line aimed at extending the life expectancy of pets. The Wards do not pay themselves a salary for their work, which keeps prices down. While Ward's contribution to pop culture may be small, his efforts in animal welfare could matter most.
