Last night's Golden Globe Awards had its fair share of uncomfortable moments, thanks to host Jo Koy's awkward jokes. Many celebrities, including Harrison Ford and Taylor Swift, appeared unimpressed by Jo's so-called humor, and viewers at home were equally disappointed.
However, one specific joke stood out as particularly distasteful. Jo summarized Greta Gerwig's successful Barbie movie as simply being about "a plastic doll with big boobies." He completely disregarded the film's accomplishments, such as grossing over $1 billion within three weeks and Greta becoming the first female solo director with a billion-dollar film.
As Jo's joke fell flat, he giggled and admitted that he didn't write all of the jokes himself. The camera captured the reactions of the audience, with Selena Gomez looking disappointed, Helen Mirren following suit, and Ayo Edebiri refusing to acknowledge the joke altogether. Emma Stone's apparent disgust was evident, while Greta, Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, and Issa Rae, who all starred in Barbie, seemed less than pleased.
Fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment, describing the joke as rooted in misogyny. It was indeed an awkward and uncomfortable moment at the Golden Globe Awards.
