Officer Michael Pascale of the NYPD found Joey, a little black puppy, while patrolling a public park. The puppy was being held to a fence by a heavy chain around his neck, damp, shivering, and obviously abandoned. Pascale felt a connection growing as he dried the grateful dog with a towel. Joey was brought to the Animal Care Centers of NYC shelter in Brooklyn by the officer.
The couple agreed to adopt Joey if they could overcome one obstacle, the 72-hour stray hold. Pascale promised to protect him and make sure he never experiences abuse or neglect. Finally, Pascale was able to adopt Joey, and they started their new life together. Joey is a wonderful dog who likes showing his dad about New York City and spending time on the couch with his mother. Even though he occasionally gets into the trash and still dislikes being outside in the rain, mostly he is content.
