2023/03/10

It is known that in spite chihuahuas can’t talk they use other ways to communicate their emotions or ideas. For example a wagging tail is the sign of a joyful pup, while a lowered tail symbolizes fear. However, did you know that even the way they sleep tells us a lot about their personality or temperament?

According to scientists, “Your chihuahua’s favorite sleeping position  can change based on where he’s laid, if there is a person near them, or if he’s feeling a certain way.”

So, here we are going to show you the 7 most common chihuahua sleeping positions and its meaning.

Crazy Legs

We know you have seen your dog sleeping on his back with the four legs up, so that position has the name of crazy legs. Researchers say that dogs who sleep in this position tend to be submisive and feell vulnerable. With his for legs up, his stomach is completly exposed. If your dogs sleep in this way it means that they are very independent and laidback. Whatever the case, when a dog is doing the Crazy Legs, they are letting their family know that they feel 100% comfortable and safe.

Side Sleeping

This position is very common in pups. It has been said by researchers of Next Gen Dog that this position it is reserved just for naps. However, some dogs use for sleeping during long periods of time. The position is more relaxing than the Curly Sue and once again demonstrates full trust with the dog feeling comfortable enough to leave their tummy exposed. Dogs who sleep in this way are very calm and care-free. That is way the saying says that side sleepers are happy dogs.

Superman

Statistics have shown that one of the cutest positions is the superman. This position basically imitates superman flying. The dog is sleeping on her belly with his four legs stretched. Dogs tend to do this position to wake up eassier than other positions and continue the activities they were doing before. As a result, the Superman position is definitely an indicator of a bouncy, energetic canine!

Passed Out

This one is very similar to crazy legs sleeping position. Scientists say the passed out position may be a sign of an overheating. This is because a dog’s paws contain sweat glands, and their belly has the least amount of fur on their body, ultimately making this position  effective for cooling off. Be aware, however; if your dog has their paws curled over their chest while ‘Passed Out”, they are telling you they don’t want to be bothered. So, take the risk if you want to wake them up.

Belly Curl

The Belly Curl is similar to the Curly Sue, except the dog’s body isn’t as tightly wound up. If your dog is sleeping using belly curl, they may not be getting the best sleep quality. According to Dog’s Best Life, when dogs are sleeping in this way muscles are not allowed to be relaxed at all, so they can not enter in a deep sleep, REM stage of sleep. Dogs who belly curl tend to be gentle and shy— but some are the most adventurous of the pack!

Curly Sue

When a dogs sleep in this way they are partaking in (what we like to call) the ‘Curly Sue’ position.

Because the Curly Sue allows a dog to have their belly protected and share heat in a pack, it is the most common position amongst wolves and wild dogs, according to Dogs Best Life. If your pup is doing the Curly Sue, it likely means they are either a bit cold or apprehensive about something, like a new environment or people. But don’t worry. Joyful, independent pups often sleep like this too— it’s just so cozy!

Back to Back

This position is very different than the others because it tells you how your dog sleeps in relation to either yourself or another pooch. If you have many dogs, you might have seen your dogs sleeping in a back to back possiton. This is because is an instinctual way for a dog to show you are one of the pack, one important member in his life. Moreover, back-to-back sleeping is a way for your pup to bond with you, showing you that they can trust you 100%.
