This article tells the story of a man named John Unger and his beloved dog, Schoep. Unger adopted Schoep as a puppy and cared for him for 19 years until he began to suffer from arthritis and hip dysplasia. To relieve his pain, Unger began taking Schoep into the water with him, using the buoyancy to take the pressure off of his joints.
A photo of the two of them floating together went viral, and their story made the news. Donations poured in to help Unger seek alternative pain management methods for Schoep. Although Schoep has since passed away, the love between him and Unger can still be felt around the world.
